Lost: 20 Easter Eggs, In-Jokes And References You Must See

14. Curb Your Enthusiasm, Hurley

Episode: Numbers In "Numbers," the eighteenth episode of the show's first season, there's a memorable moment during a flashback in which Hurley - having won the lottery and experiencing endless streams of bad luck - is mistaken for a drug dealer and is subsequently arrested. Hilariously, this is a subtle reference to Larry David's hilarious HBO sitcom Curb Your Enthusiasm - a show in which actor Jorge Garcia (who plays Hurley) briefly featured, playing - you guessed it - a drug dealer. The role in Curb is incredibly minor - essentially a bit-part - but it was also the one that led to Garcia being cast on Lost, which is pretty cool. Seriously: after watching Jorge Garcia in Curb Your Enthusiasm, the writers of Lost set out to cast him - they even wrote the role of Hugo "Hurley" Reyes for the actor. So Seinfeld and Curb aside, that's another thing we have good ol' Larry David to thank for: Hurley.
