Of course the best season of the show, would be the one that pulled audiences in and got them addicted to fan theories for over six years.

The launch of the series was an event - with it's two-part introduction episodes becoming one of the most talked about thing happening in 2004. Every episode of the first season seemed to crank out more and more absurdities and oddities - to the point where explaining the show as simply about the survivors of a plane crash was damned near impossible.

Perhaps what tipped audiences off about how crazy a show Lost would be, was when the rumblings of a monster in the jungle set off that this wasn't simply going to be Lord of the Flies but with adults. From that point, audiences were treated to magical healing, ghosts, castaways, infiltrating inhabitants and outright weirdness in between.

Compared to where the show went in later seasons, the first season was still pretty simple and while it did ask way too many questions that were (sort of) answered in later seasons, for anyone who never watched the show when it first aired, I would recommend the first season at least just to get a whiff of what the craze was all about.
