Love, Victor Season 2 Review: 8 Ups & 3 Downs
6. Life After Coming Out
Love, Victor set out to show that Love, Simon wasn't the most universal coming out story ever told. It accomplished that but its decision to tell another coming out story - and subsequently end the first season at said coming out - divided people. Yes, it was different but, in a way, it was also the same.
What sets Season 2 apart, however, is the fact that it tells a completely different story. Focusing on Victor's relationship with Benji and his parents' attempts to accept him now that they know he's gay, the second season is all about life after coming out - something that Love, Simon barely got the chance to show.
There's an exciting 'second chapter' feeling that sticks with the season throughout all ten episodes. It feels like uncharted territory and it doesn't shy away from delving into the highs and the lows that come with that new chapter.
Though not a perfect one, this is the kind of original story that many wanted to see from the first season - and what a refreshing story it is.
