Luke Cage Season 2: 22 WTF Moments
16. The Cockroach Lawsuit Subplot (Episode 5, "All Souled Out")
Episode five begins with Cockroach filing a lawsuit against Luke for their prior physical altercation, while Luke retains Foggy Nelson (Elden Hensen) as counsel.
Foggy eventually advises him that in order to settle with Cockroach for $100,000, he should make a personal appearance and charge a huge fee.
This leads to an outrageously goofy series of events where Luke considers sponsorship deals with Nike and the NFL (who are both hesitant for PR reasons), and holds a meeting with a reality TV tycoon who wants him to fight a shark.
Luke eventually accepts $150,000 to make a personal appearance at a club owned by Luke Cage fanboy Piranha Jones (Chaz Lamar Shepherd). He has to wear the iconic bullet-riddled jacket, though, and suffers the indignity of taking selfies with drunk people, having a bottle broken over his head, acting as a doorman for Piranha and being shot at for kicks.
It's silly as all hell and a shameless filler subplot, but not without its amusing moments.
