Luke Cage Season 2: 32 Easter Eggs & References Explained

6. Dr. Dre

There are a ton of rappers and black musicians name-dropped throughout this season, though the most substantial reference occurs when Luke Cage and Danny Rand are on detective manoeuvres, and Danny mentions that back in Kun-Lun, there was a leaf or medicine for every ailment.

Luke says it must be "K-town chronic", which provides a perfect segue into the pair discussing Dr. Dre's iconic and absurdly influential 1992 debut album The Chronic and his 2001 follow-up (simply called 2001).

When Luke asks Danny what he knows about The Chronic, he knowingly replies, "I know I'm supposed to say the original, but Chronic 2001 was kinda my favourite", adding that 2001 was the last album he bought from Tower Records before the fateful plane crash that killed his parents.

In addition to being a neat reference, this was a pretty fun way to cement the growing bond between these two characters.

5. Iron Fist Loves Pork

This season generally does a far better job of acknowledging The Defenders actually happening than Jessica Jones' second season did, and there's one especially amusing callback to the memorable fourth episode of The Defenders, where the team seeks refuge in the Royal Dragon Chinese restaurant.

In the tenth episode of this season, Danny and Luke conclude their brief bromance by heading out for Chinese food, and Danny can't help but ask the waitress, "Do you have anymore of this mu shu pork? I've been everywhere and this is by far the best I've ever had."

This is a clear reference to Danny's love of pork as he made evident during the aforementioned Defenders episode.
