When Pete and Trudy first broke up, it looked like it would just be a temporary thing. Trudy wasn't particularly bright, while smarter wives than her have let their husbands get away with cheating, certainly on this show. After a few episodes though, you began to realise Trudy really was serious; there was no way back for Pete. Even in Season 7 it seemed she would remain steadfast. Normally after coming this far, you might argue taking Pete back is a defeat for Trudy. It's really not though. In the end, it was required that Pete completely abandon his previous lifestyle to win her trust again, and it has to be said, it was convincingly done. By the time of the last few episodes it was clear both parties were getting what they'd always wanted. Tons of money, respect in high society (which they had lost since their divorce) and a partner that was willing to put up with their list of imperfections.
