4. "The prize for being the smuggest bitch in the world." - Stan Rizzo
In episode 4x06, we are introduced to Stan Rizzo, an artist new to the agency who works with Peggy on an account. Their work relationship is bumpy, highlighting the tension between young working men suddenly having to view their professional female counterparts as equals. While working late on copy, Peggy foots the majority of the workload, while Stan flips through Playboy. Peggy presses him to keep working, egging him on by insinuating he's a powerless pervert for resorting to nude magazines. Stan fires back rounds of belittling insults about her looks and what he thinks is a total lack of sexuality. She tells him not to be so quick to judge - he doesn't know her. Then he says that he knows she's ashamed of her body, and if she's not, she should be. What it boils down to is that Stan can't come to terms that he's stuck with this woman and she doesn't want to sleep with him. She's not there for him to gawk at, so he's got to knock her down to size. So, Peggy does what makes her such a great character in the first place: she challenges him. She strips down naked and proposes that they "get liberated" and get working. She's not afraid or ashamed of being as naked as the girls in Playboy. Stan accepts the challenge. And then loses. When Peggy asks what she's won, he says, "The prize for being the smuggest bitch in the world."
