Malcolm In The Middle: Every Lead Character Ranked From Worst To Best
2. Malcolm
The show's titular character needed to land well on this list, and it's safe to say he does. While his arrogance could be frustrating, Malcolm was believable thanks to his position as the middle child and his agency in the plot. As the eponymous hero, the narratives often revolved around him, and while this did alter as the series progressed and the focus shifted, you never lost that sense of him being the lead.
It felt a little hard to relate to him at times, thanks to the fact that his status as a genius made him overly confident. However, this worked really well, as it made him flawed and, therefore, more enjoyable. Despite his abrasive moments, Malcolm was funny and had a great repour with the other character. Plus, it was impossible not to fall for his youthful cynicism.
Although all of these aspects bring him up, one major component helped him stand out, that being his position as the fourth-wall-breaking narrator. He was the only character to talk directly to the audience, and that made him your eye into the world. For that, he ranks high but isn't quite number one.
