It goes without saying already that the casting of Finn Jones caused considerable controversy when it was first announced: ever since, a debate about cultural appropriation and white saviours has threatened to overtake all discussion of the show.

It seems the writers might have been all too aware of the issues, taking a swipe at the controversy in a similar way to Ghostbusters' 2016 reboot taking control of their own gender swap controversy. At one point Danny is castigated for his outfit and dishevelled look and frustrated he asks: "Why is everybody on at me about how I look?"
