27. The Killers

When Jessica and Trish meet up for the first time in this season on a rooftop, they do so in front of a giant cinema screen, which is projecting a black and white movie. The scene we see is from The Killers (1946) whose choice is definitely no accident.

The film noir genre obviously nods to what Jessica Jones was shaping up to be originally - as well as to her job as PI - but there's more to it than that. The story that The Killers is based on - Ernest Hemingway's short story of the same name - is about a boxer paid to throw a fight who turned on the deal and realised he was going to be killed for it. That sounds an awful lot like Matt Murdock's father's backstory from Daredevil doesn't it?

It should - it's basically the same story.
