Marvel's Jessica Jones Season 2 Review: 6 Ups And 4 Downs

3. A Lack Of Focus

The overarching plot of this season, such as there is one, is Jessica's search for answers and then reconnection with her mother. But even then, the first half of that is driven more by Trish for large parts of the earlier episodes in particular.

With expanding the supporting players to give them their own arcs, and having various people chasing down dead-ends, along with an (admittedly enjoyable) sojourn into the past, it means that the season doesn't have a clear direction, and instead meanders around a few different plotlines that don't fully coalesce.

Just when it appears there's a clear handle on where it's going it changes direction, but rather than keeping things fresh and exciting it just means that it lacks focus. It works more effectively as a character study of Jessica, but as a plot it's a bit all over the place.
