Marvel's Jessica Jones Season 2 Review: 6 Ups And 4 Downs
2. Trish's Arc Doesn't Quite Work
Rachael Taylor makes a step-up this year in terms of what she's asked to do, and at first that looks like working: the early signs are that they'll commit to making her Hellcat, and she displays a wider-range of abilities in both her conflict and chemistry with Jessica.
Unfortunately, though, that starts to veer off around the mid-point and can't quite get things back on track, despite Taylor giving a good showing. The addiction angle is a little overplayed, and it becomes harder to buy into her actions when they ultimately end up boiling down to her wanting powers of her own, even if she claims her intentions are to help people.
There are some interesting threads to pull at should a third season happen (and it probably will - the ending certainly counts on it), but the pitting of Alisa against Trish here feels a little forced, and her killing Jessica's mother doesn't feel like the best direction to go in, especially as it goes against her stated methods, although it does lead to some more stellar work from Ritter.
