Marvel's Luke Cage Season 2: Ranking Every Major Character From Worst To Best
6. James Lucas
In a curious bit of thematic crossover with Jessica Jones season 2, this season of Luke Cage sees the Hero of Harlem reconnect with his father which results in a tempestuous relationship between them that eventually thaws into mutual respect and love.
Luckily for Luke, though, his dad isn't a serial killer like Alisa Jones and is instead James Lucas, a preacher who disagrees with his son's violent lifestyle. While all the talk of Luke having anger issues due to his broken relationship with his dad comes out of nowhere, any scene between Mike Colter and Reg E. Cathey is a gem as they work so well together.
Tragically, Cathey passed away earlier this year which means we're cruelly denied more of this father/son bonding in season 3. At least James' arc this season felt complete and gave us one last strong performance from the late actor. The dedication to him which appears after the finale - sporting Pop's quote "Forward always" - is deeply touching.
