4. The Origin Story Is Handled Well

This day and age, superhero origin stories are pretty played out. Many of them are very similar, many of the tropes have been done to death, and at this point, many feel more like a formality than anything else.

However, the origin story for the Runaways, which revolves around a group of teenagers discovering that their parents are villainous murders and becoming heroes as a result, was done fairly well in the show's premiere.

First of all, Runaways as a comic book series isn't nearly as popular as, say, Spider-Man or Batman. So, it's likely that not as many people are really familiar with their origin, which already makes it feel less played out on-screen. Secondly, while the origin story as portrayed in the show is definitely loyal to the comics, it does take a few liberties, such as the kids' respective relationships with their parents.

This is an instance were a reasonable amount of change from the source is a good thing, as it's just familiar enough for fans of the comics o be satisfied, but just different enough to not only warrant a retelling, but also be easily accessible to new audiences who may not be familiar with the comics.

In fact, given how unique the Runaways' origin story is, it's very likely to attract new fans.
