Although this is a team-up, the heroes are very much disparate individuals forced together by circumstance, and the show makes a few stylistic choices in order to keep them distinct.

One is on a visual level, which works very well. As we've seen in the solo shows, each character has their own unique colour, and there's backlighting of each one in turn - red for Daredevil, purple for Jessica etc - that helps make the show visually interesting even when the settings themselves are fairly nondescript.

On the flip side, the musical choices are more jarring. Again, it pulls at themes from each solo series, which isn't much of an issue for Matt or Jessica, but does mean we get brief hip-hop snippets when Luke appears. That soundtrack was brilliant in the context of his show, but the use here is more a distraction than anything else.

On the whole, though, it does a good job of showing just how distinct all of these heroes are. While this is The Defenders, there are definitely moments of Daredevil 2.5 and Jessica Jones/Luke Cage.Iron Fist 1.5 here, and even if you're only invested in one or two of these characters, you're likely to find it satisfying enough, not losing their personalities in the shuffle.
