Though The Punisher himself doesn't turn up in the series (he has bigger fish to fry than the end of New York obviously), there is a pretty obscure nod to the history of the character on the big screen in there.

The corporate villain who Matt Murdock interrogates in his opening court case is called Mr Berkowitz (played by Simon Fell who some fans might recognise from Orange Is The New Black). That name won't ring too many bells from the comics, but Frank Castle did have a cop friend called Lt Jake Berkowitz in the 1989 The Punisher movie starring Dolph Lundgren.

He was played by Lou Gossett Jr, and there are rarely coincidences in this universe.
