Luke's story begins with him once more looking to protect Harlem's most vulnerable residents - especially those he sees himself in like J Mallory McCree's Cole. When he finds out that Cole is in trouble and is being pressurised into working for Sowande (otherwise known a White Hat), he goes to visit the young kid at his home to talk him into revealing who is terrorising him.

In the background of Cole's apartment there's a clever little call-back to Luke Cage in the shape of a poster for Long Live The Chief by Jidenna. The hip hop artist previously turned up performing in Luke Cage for Cottonmouth in his club.
