Marvel's The Defenders: 6 Reasons To Be Excited (And 4 To Be Worried)
3. There's No Guarantee They'll Work Well Together
As already mentioned, bringing these four heroes together is the major sell of the series, the reason it exists and a large part of its overall appeal. But on the other side of the coin, you've got the potential downsides that come with that as well.
As great as Daredevil, Jessica Jones, and Luke Cage are, they're also very individualistic heroes. Whether they're trying to save themselves or others, they prefer to do it alone, and don't play well with others (this seems less of an issue for Danny Rand). They've succeeded in this, and had some much time to develop that there are obvious risks in putting them in this completely new dynamic. If the fun is in watching their solo stories, will they be diminished in becoming part of something bigger than themselves?
By the same token, there's also no guarantee that they will work well together - as actors or characters. We know Krysten Ritter and Mike Colter have chemistry, but a lot has changed since they were last together, and there's little basis to say how the others will interact. In terms of characters, again, it should be interesting and fun to see how they interact, but it's also a major balancing act. Each character needs to bring the key elements of themselves and get an equal share of the spotlight, while still feeling like this is a team, not just a collection of individuals who happen to be together. That is not an easy task.
