Marvel's The Defenders Review: 5 Ups And 7 Downs

4. Elektra

The Defenders Elektra
Netflix

While Matt Murdock is brilliant in this, the woman he loves, Elektra, is not.

There's something more interesting about her in the early stages, as she's an amnesiac weapon of superhero destruction used by the Hand, with an odd relationship between her and Alexandra, and just enough of the old Elektra shining through.

The more we see of her, though, the less interesting she becomes. She increasingly dominates part of the story, especially in being the one to deliver the double murder twists, but there's no pay off to that.

We don't really get to understand what's going on in her head, or why she killed Alexandra. She could've had this planned with Stick all along, or maybe there was a different, compelling reason for taking over, but we don't get to see any of that. Instead it boils down to 'I'm not actually this empty vessel, I do remember and I'm gonna be kinda evil just 'cause'.
