Marvel's The Defenders Review: 5 Ups And 7 Downs
1. Jessica Jones
It has been far too long since Krysten Ritter's Jessica Jones graced our screens, and my word it is good to have her back.
Jessica Jones is, for my money, the best series of all these Netflix Marvel shows, and a lot of that comes down to Ritter's performance, which she builds on perfectly here.
Throughout all eight episodes Jessica constantly delivers the best lines, calling anyone and everyone out on their bullsh*t and how ridiculous it all is, but without ever just being used as comic relief.
She herself as a strong arc, since she starts the series no longer wanting to do P.I. work and still struggling with her past, and the show does a great job of just laying little bits at a time of her becoming a more fully fledged hero who can see the bigger picture.
It nicely rebuilds her relationship with Luke and starts a fresh one with Daredevil (which takes goes to a new level when she talks about his father), and she's a lot more than just a snarky badass (though she definitely is that too, and it is a joy to watch). There's no one more entertaining in the series than Ritter, and like with Daredevil, it leaves you yearning for her solo show to return.
