Marvel's The Punisher: What Does The Ending Really Mean?

4. The Liebermans Can Go Back To Normality - But Probably Won't

David Lieberman is back from the dead and, after helping Frank and Homeland, is reunited with his family. There's obviously going to be a transitional period, but the ending makes it clear they're working through the issues and are going to go back to being a functioning family unit. Furthermore, Frank chooses not to join them for dinner, instead allowing David to rejoin his family and have a relatively normal life away from him.

Which should last for however long it takes to make a second season, and then they'll be back together.

The relationship between Frank and Micro is one of the absolute highlights of the show, and as such it'll definitely be revisited in a hypothetical Season 2, which is only confirmed by the fact the pair working together is a major part of both characters in the comics.

It's not just that it's pre-determined, though. They end things on a very open-ended way, but also show us just how much David and his family have come to care about Frank/Pete, and means they'll want to be keeping an eye on him, while David himself might find it difficult to return to any sort of normal work after being 'dead' for a year, and will leap at the chance of another mission with the Punisher.
