Marvel's The Punisher: What Does The Ending Really Mean?

5. The Gnuccis Still Need To Be Addressed

Ok, so it's not exactly part of the ending - well, not at all really, as it happens in the very first episode - but it's a big dangling thread that the TV show is likely to pick up on should a Season 2 occur.

In the series premiere, the card game the construction workers attempt to rob is run by a family called the Gnuccis, who are a big part of The Punisher comics. They rise to power during Frank's absence from New York, and become the biggest mob family in the city, with the police and government all in their grip. They're led by Ma Gnucci - who gets torn apart by a polar bear at one point - and become the target for Frank when he returns.

Since the Punisher is laying low, and the Gnuccis are already established, there's definitely a vacuum for them to become even bigger players in NYC, drawing Frank out of retirement. There probably won't be any polar bears though.
