Premieres: 2017 The one-two punch of Daredevil and Jessica Jones last year allayed many concerns about the Marvel/Netflix partnership, giving fans a clearer picture on just how mature the Netflix corner of the Marvel Cinematic Universe is while ensuring that the anticipation for the arrival of The Defenders would only continue to grow. There's still a long way to go before the various street-level heroes finally unite, from Daredevil's second season to Luke Cage's first outing to the introduction of Iron Fist, with many characters still set to be introduced and a whole lot of world-building left to be done. That said, what fan of the MCU could possibly find it difficult to get excited about seeing the characters we've already met - and all the ones we'll soon be meeting - finally uniting several years after such an event was only teased in the initial Marvel/Netflix announcement? The street-level team hasn't even come together yet and already they've proven immensely popular, and hardly a week goes by without the question coming up about whether they will ultimately cross over to the big screen and show up alongside the Avengers, particularly in the Infinity War two-parter. There's little doubt that everyone at Marvel has been considering how to make it happen, but whether The Defenders miniseries leads to even bigger things or not, the mere fact it's happening makes it the most exciting television project to look forward to yet in the company's ever-expanding juggernaut of a franchise.
