The black costume that Matt Murdock spends the majority of the series in is clearly inspired by Frank Miller's Daredevil comic book storyline, "The Man Without Fear."
It was Miller's short arc that injected the property with the same kind of darkness and contradiction that the show has channelled to such success.
When Daredevil eventually pulls on his iconic red suit, that too is taken directly from the comics, as it is based on what he wore during the Secret Wars arc.
