7. Sister Maggie
Season 3 introduced Sister Maggie, the head nun at the St. Agnes Orphanage where Matt grew up and where he goes to recover from his near-death experience in The Defenders. Fans of the comics knew where this character was headed - late in the season, Maggie was revealed to be Matt's mother, having left his father and joined the order in her youth.
While many of us saw this twist coming, though, the character's arc was still pretty well done - much like Lantom before her, Maggie acts as Matt's moral compass but their relationship is much more layered than his and the priest's as he and Maggie have that estranged parent/son angle.
By the end of the season, Matt seems to have come to terms with what his mother kept from him. Hopefully, having a parent around will help him become a healthier person in season 4.
