Marvel's Luke Cage: 10 Things The Netflix Series Needs To Do To Succeed

1. Establish A Connection To The MCU

Arguably the biggest knock against the Netflix series has been how disconnected they feel from the rest of the MCU. It’s understandable that they want to craft their own narrative instead of being beholden to the whims of the movies like Agents Of SHIELD is, but there’s a cost to that attitude.

A line alluding to the Chitauri invasion from The Avengers is not enough to establish a connection between the film and television sides of Marvel. And simply ignoring the massive goings-on of the MCU doesn't work either.

Luke Cage could do all of these series a great favour by finding a more concrete link to the MCU. That doesn’t mean Iron Man has to show up in Hell’s Kitchen or Luke needs to come across an Infinity Stone, but there has to be more than a single line of dialogue per season acknowledging everything else that's going on.

Surely, someone struggling to conceal their own abilities would relate to these costumed heroes fighting threats all over the world. He might not want to join their ranks but surely he has feelings on the cataclysmic global events involving people just like him.
