Marvel's Luke Cage: 10 Things The Netflix Series Needs To Do To Succeed

Just as Phase 1 of Marvel’s films built to The Avengers, these initial outings from Netflix have all been leading to one epic team-up. And with Charlie Cox’s recent reveal of the start of production on this series, it’s clear that the Defenders is coming much sooner than people initially thought.

With Luke Cage as one of the last series airing before this occurs, it is going to be responsible for setting a lot of the groundwork. It likely won't be as burdened as Iron Man 2 was with developing plot threads, but it's still going to need to be an adequate prelude while still standing on its own.

Specifically, Luke Cage needs to solidify the connections between the four heroes in question. It needs to at least emphasize where they’re protecting, and what they’re all willing to fight for. That doesn’t mean that every Netflix hero needs to show up (although that would be nice), but there needs to at least be some discussions about Cage wanting to accomplish something bigger, and why he might need a team of people to get it done.
