Marvel's Luke Cage: 10 Things The Netflix Series Needs To Do To Succeed

6. Show Him Helping People

So far, the Netflix heroes seem more like crime-fighters and less like superheroes. It’s fine that they’re trying to stop criminals but it would be nice to see Luke Cage take a different approach to his heroic outings. He clearly values protecting the lives of innocents, especially with what happened to his wife, and it would be a neat spin to see him trying to save people instead of just hunting down criminal masterminds.

A hero like that could present a nice twist to the established formula. Plot-wise, Cage, while busy helping people, could find himself mired in some sort of conspiracy as opposed to actively seeking out a shadowy power player.

Likewise, on a thematic level, this take on the character could bring about the dilemma of whether Cage ought to be saving people or stopping the villain. There's an interesting debate in whether letting some people get hurt in the short-term is worth the long-term effects of keeping his neighbourhood safe.

It’s important as viewers to be reminded why we’re rooting for these characters, and a proactive hero could offer that reason, while still starring in a compelling narrative.
