Marvel's The Punisher New Trailer Breakdown: 11 Things You Need To See

1. A Frank Conversation

While there was plenty on show in the trailer, one thing that wasn't shown but was, instead, more hinted at, was the evolution of the Punisher himself. It's very clear that this isn't the Frank we know from the comics just yet, but he does show flashes of it here and there.

When this team of paramilitary types enter his hideout, a call goes out on the radio to "shoot on site". Hearing this, Frank makes an (admittedly grim) quip by answering the call, "with pleasure". What follows is a massacre of Born proportions where he systematically eliminates all the members of the group, and while the trailer dwelled on the more emotive and sullen aspects of the Castle character, it's clear that those humorous, more decidedly grim elements will feature in certain moments too.

Likewise, we now know that the Battle Van will be making an appearance too - itself a key piece of Punisher iconography. With the addition of Micro also comes another piece of the puzzle, which will no doubt be completed when Russo brings his own game-themed face to bear by the series' end.

It might not be the character just yet, but neither was Daredevil in his first season. Netflix have followed this origin format to relative success in all four of their previous series (Iron Fist aside), and with this year having been something of a lacklustre one for the streaming group, we're due a decent response. Fortunate for us, it's coming in a black and white hue.
