Marvel's The Punisher Season 2: 10 Reasons To Be Excited

Speaking of The Punisher's armour, one of the few quibbles fans may have had with the show so far is that appearances of Frank Castle in full costume have been few and far between. This was necessary and sensible for story reasons, as he slowly went from broken, devastated victim to faceless dispenser of justice. Aside from brief shots of him in the armour at the end of Daredevil S2, and a couple of episodes of Punisher S1 his mission has largely been personal and conducted in plain black combat fatigues. It sounds like this is about to change, however.

Steve Lightfoot, who happily returns as showrunner for season 2, has hinted at this saying, "If you ask, 'What is the theme of Season 2?' It’s about Frank really adopting the mantle of The Punisher." While the season will begin with Frank trying to live a quiet life out west he'll soon return to New York and the skull armour will play a big part, "This year, when he puts it on, we figured out a very intelligent, very tactical reason, a very psychologically tactical reason to wear it. It makes a lot of sense" Jon Bernthal has said.

While the sense of a darker, more grounded reality has been key to differentiating the Marvel/Netflix shows from the brighter, more fantastical Marvel Cinematic Universe, these are still comic book shows and fans will doubtless get a kick out of seeing The Punisher dispensing justice in full regalia a bit more often.
