Marvel's The Punisher Season 2 Review: 6 Ups & 4 Downs

2. Withholding Too Much For Too Long

Another idea that works better in theory than execution is the way The Punisher Season 2 tries to establish a central mystery, which concerns Amy and the very people she's on the run from, including John Pilgrim and some people even higher-up the food chain.

Amy, being scared and prone to running off, isn't giving much away about what happened to her. Rather than creating an intriguing mystery, though, the caginess here simply becomes irritating and prevents us from being able to fully understand the character or what's happening to her. We can empathise, because she's a young girl facing a dire situation, but without knowing what that situation is or why things are so bad, it reduces the amount of investment we can have in her character and plight.

It's not until much later in the game that any of it really becomes apparent, and while there are some great moments served up towards the end, it's much too late for a thrilling storyline.
