Marvel's The Punisher Season 2 Review: 6 Ups & 4 Downs
4. If It Is Cancelled, There Will At Least Be Satisfying Closure
As mentioned at the outset, there's a great chance The Punisher is going to be cancelled. It's the fate that befell Iron Fist, Luke Cage, and Daredevil, and it isn't a question of the season's quality (otherwise Daredevil wouldn't be going anywhere), and even if people tune in en masse for this it might not be enough to save it.
There's clearly been a shift in strategy at Netflix regarding their Netflix shows - ranging from the emergence of Disney Plus, to producing more of their own content (without mark-ups for the licence) and so on - that means The Punisher will probably be on its way out, and Jessica Jones later this year as well.
If that does happen, though, then at least fans will have a sense of closure from this. Part of what made the other cancellations so shocking was how they very much left their characters on the edge of even bigger stories, with major teases of things to come (especially in Daredevil). The Punisher's ending, by contrast, wraps things up nicely. Not in such finality that there couldn't be a Season 3 - there's definitely still room for more - but it nonetheless manages to provide a satisfying conclusion to the story, which should make its cancellation easier to swallow.
