Marvel's The Punisher Season 2: What Does The Ending Really Mean?
7. The Jigsaw Is Complete
After two seasons as a thorn in Frank Castle's side, Billy Russo's story is finally done.
Admittedly you could make the argument that it was mostly done after Season 1, because the conflict here doesn't do too much different to what we saw in the first season, save for the fact it's Russo who doesn't know what happened this time out. Still, the performances of Ben Barnes and Jon Bernthal help to make it work, and it's fitting that it does come down to those two (with some assistance from Madani).
It's also important to note the difference in how their rivalry ends here, compared to Season 1. Then, with everything so raw, Frank chooses not to kill Billy, but instead completely decimates him, consumed by rage and the feeling of betrayal. This time, he just shoots him a couple of times. It's cold, efficient, ruthless, and suggests that Frank is now completely done with his old pal Billy. Not all of his demons are behind him, but this big one is.
