Marvel's The Punisher Season 2: What Does The Ending Really Mean?

1. It Doesn't Need A Third Season

Is this the end of The Punisher? We likely won't find out for another month or so, which is the typical window after airing before Netflix renew or cancel a series, but it seems likely. With Iron Fist, Luke Cage, and Daredevil all canned, it'd be a major surprise if they didn't cancel The Punisher too.

It's something of a relief, then, that The Punisher doesn't *need* a third season. Unlike the endings to those other three series, which had some major setup for future instalments, all of the stories here are quite neatly wrapped up. All of the key players have a sense of closure, which should prove a satisfying end if the series is scrapped.

That's not to say it should be cancelled, if for nothing else than it'd be great to have more of Jon Bernthal's take on The Punisher. A miniseries, a movie, a recurring role in another show - Bernthal gives the definitive take on the character, and it'd be a shame to lose him from the MCU. But for the show itself, it can go out if not on a high, then at least on a proper endnote.
