Masters Of Sex: 8 Things To Be Excited About In Season 3
The show that taught the world how to love.
Everyone's favourite scientists Bill Masters and Virginia Johnson are back on the small screen to teach the world how to love. Showtime's cult drama Masters of Sex is raunchy and revolutionary, but above all it's under-appreciated.
The series follows the true story of Dr Masters and his assistant turned mistress Virginia Johnson and their pioneering sex research in the 50s and 60s. Masters of Sex is sprinkled with great performances that have earned numerous award nominations and consistently good reviews, yet is cursed with underserved low viewing figures.
The end of season 2 saw a surprising jump in time to the early 60s, shown by John F Kennedy's presidential inauguration in January 1961. Dr Masters' wife Libby also reveals that she has been aware of the affair between her husband and his assistant (thankfully, because she'd be a fool not to have seen it), which helps to leave the season on a good old fashioned cliffhanger.
The new season is set to jump again into 1966, when Masters and Johnson published their first book, Human Sexual Response. The pair have now become overnight stars and are at the heart of the sexual revolution. The path their relationship takes is anyone's guess given that the show has that healthy mixture of reality and fictional drama.
So get watching and then strap in for this sneak peak about what's coming up next season.
8. Rise To Fame And The Sexual Revolution
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j5BJVyhkPLsThe show will spring viewers into the heart of the swinging sixties. Masters of Sex will find itself at the height of historical drama, including the Kennedys, social rights movements and of course the sexual revolution.
The president's infamous infidelity mirrors Masters and Johnson's ongoing affair. Also, the president's role as an important political figure shows similarity with Masters and Johnson's importance in the field of science.
The paper Masters and Johnson released was a sellout in bookshops across America and they instantly rose to fame. The new season will definitely focus around how each of them copes and how this affected their lengthy affair.
The 60s also marked the introduction of the pill to America, as well as numerous feminist groups and LGBT groups that helped bring sex out into the open.
Whilst the drama will be more interesting that last season, it will also probably make critics see comparisons to shows like Mad Men, which is set at the same time.
