9. What Is Monica Rambeau's Role?

Characters crossing over between movies is nothing new to the MCU. It is one of the main reasons why Kevin Feige and co. are able to sustain and connect many individual franchises within the over-arcing Cinematic Universe. Most of these appearances make a lot of sense, but some are far more unexpected.

Natasha Romanoff has appeared in both the Iron Man and Captain America franchises, which makes sense considering her position at S.H.I.E.L.D, whereas Doctor Strange's cameo in Thor: Ragnarok was more out of left field. Monica Rambeau's role in WandaVision is certainly more toward the latter on this scale.

Her sole previous appearance in the MCU came in Captain Marvel as a young girl who called the titular hero Auntie Carol. Since this was based in the 1990s and WandaVision is based in a post-Endgame world, little Monica has grown up a lot and will be portrayed by Mad Men star Teyonah Parris.

Assuming WandaVision is set in 2023, that puts it 28 years after the events of Captain Marvel. Obviously in the MCU, literally anything could have happened to Monica in that time, but what exactly happens to bring her into the company of Wanda and Vision?
