MCU: 10 Big Questions Surrounding Marvel's Disney+ Shows
6. What Drives Zemo To Wear His Hood?
Debuting in Captain America: Civil War, Helmut Zemo was the first in a flurry of fantastic villains in Phase Three of the MCU. Daniel Brühl's character is a survivor of the events of Age of Ultron in Sokovia, though he lost his entire family. Taking revenge on the Avengers, Zemo seeks to divide the heroes and have them bring themselves down. Incredibly, he is successful.
One of the most compelling aspects of the villain is that he has no powers or abilities, he is just a man mourning his family. This is why the Russos made the conscious decision to keep Zemo away from the hooded version from the comics.
However, now that the character has been established as one of the better villains in the franchise, it is time for him to grow and evolve from Helmut Zemo to Baron Zemo. The villain has been confirmed to wear the famous purple hood from the comics during the Falcon and the Winter Soldier, so why the transition? What has changed in Zemo's life that leads him cover his face?
It could simply be a case of hiding his identity, but why would Zemo care about this when he didn't in 2016?
