MCU: 10 Netflix Mistakes The Disney Plus TV Shows MUST Avoid

9. Assuming We Care About Certain Characters By Default

On-screen Marvel, more often than not, does a clever job of re-imagining vintage comic book characters for the modern world. But that also comes with a certain responsibility.

One example of an inconsistent lack of care towards characters was in the most recent series of Iron Fist. Contrary to most critique, Danny Rand was actually a decent, nicely developed protagonist. However, his Season 2 villain counterpart, Davos, was anything but. He may have had some semblance in the comics, but viewers none the wiser were treated to a non-inspired and wholly wooden rendition which added significantly to the downfall of the Iron Fist TV brand.

It's almost irrelevant as to whether or not a character has a wealth of comic book source material. Their on-screen life begins with a blank slate and must be filled with the right kind of energy for audiences to get on board. Half measures in this regard can damage a show irreparably, and Disney Plus must be prepared to treat each personality with an all-or-nothing attitude, irrespective of whether the name has a prior reputation or not.
