After thoroughly stealing the spotlight in the second season of Daredevil, it came as no surprise when Jon Bernthal's Frank "The Punisher" Castle was given his own series. Debuting in 2017, The Punisher's season one came out strong by exploring Frank Castle the broken man over simply unleashing him upon the scum of the world every episode as the Punisher.

Bernthal was, unsurprisingly, just as fantastic carrying his own show as he had been as a supporting player in his MCU debut, and a big highlight of the season overall was his relationship with Ebon Moss-Bachrach's endearing Micro, who proved to be just as important to the heart of the season as Frank. Even the villains were great, such as Paul Schulze's scumbag Agent Orange and Ben Barnes' duplicitous Billy Russo.

And while the show excelled at its character work, it didn't shy away from getting violent. From sledgehammer beatdowns to crazy gunplay to Frank exacting vengeance on Billy by raking his former friend's face across broken glass, the season knew when to use brutal violence to great effect, which was only made better by the fact it balanced that out by highlighting the negative effects that war and barbarity have had on characters like Frank, Lewis, and Curtis, an effective combo that made season one such a rewarding experience.
