MCU: Ranking Every Netflix Marvel Season Worst To Best
8. Luke Cage Season 2
With Luke Cage now a viral sensation, Mariah Dillard taking over the Stokes empire, and new villain emerging in the form of John McIver, there's a lot to like about Season 2 of the show.
It doubles down on a lot of what worked in the first, with more excellent music, fantastic performances from the likes of Simone Missick and Alfre Woodard, and a story that tackles themes of black culture and history, identity and community, immigration and politics, and most of all family. It should be engrossing stuff, and at times it really is, but the biggest problem here is Netflix bloat. There's simply not enough plot to sustain 13 episodes - even 10 would be a stretch here - and it turns what should be a rich saga into a bit of a chore, even if the individual pieces are worth watching.
Like with Iron Fist's sophomore year, Luke Cage Season 2 saves its biggest, most interesting moment for the end, but the journey there never fully justifies it, and since it's been cancelled, nor will the future.
