Despite the strength of the story that brought him to the comics, Bradley is something of a lost figure in Marvel lore. His name is nowhere near as well-known as Sam Wilson, who inherited the famous shield and it's about time he became as important as he deserves.

In the comics, he ends up being the sole survivor of his test group and in a move that mirrors Zemo's story in Civil War, takes on the mantle of Captain America when he steals a costume and shield and embarks on a suicide mission to destroy the Nazis Super Soldier efforts. He's captured after taking out their top scientist and experimented on as the Nazis seek to reverse-engineer him, but escapes. Stunningly, on his return to America, he's court-martialed for his actions and imprisoned from 1943 to 1960 when he's pardoned and released.

So why is he so important to Falcon And The Winter Soldier? Well, the answer is two fold. First, it comes down to what he and his history mean to Sam.
