MCU What If...? - 10 Biggest Takeaways From Episode 4

5. The Watcher Actually Interfered

Everything that is being shown through What If…? is being narrated and brought to the audience by Uatu the Watcher. The character, who has typically dwelt on the Moon in the comics, is a powerful cosmic being whose job it is simply to observe the happenings of the universe. He cannot and apparently will not interfere with anything that happens.

However, he broke this rule during episode four. When Strange had absorbed all the power he wanted to override the Absolute Point of Christine’s death, his entire universe began to crumble around him. He begged for The Watcher to help, though the cosmic being and narrator for the series denied him.

Ironically, though he told Strange he would not intervene, as the fate of his universe was not worth risking the safety of others, the mere act of speaking to him and interacting with him in any way should be classed as interfering, and breaking his one sacred rule.

Jeffrey Wright has previously hinted that his character may not stay out of such events forever, and should he decide to truly step in and interfere with more than just a stern word for Doctor Strange, it could be one of the moments of the entire series.
