MCU What If...? - Every Episode Ranked From Worst To Best

It’s not too unreasonable to suggest that the first two Thor movies made it the most boring franchise within the MCU. Thankfully, Taika Waititi came in and turned it completely around with Ragnarok, injecting more than a little humour into a character that had lacked it for the previous six years.

In the What If…? episode based around Thor, however, Marvel leaned into this humour far too much. It was almost as if they were trying too hard to make it as funny as possible, and the episode suffered for it. Thor just came off as a spoiled brat in an episode that had little to no actual substance.

Like the Killmonger episode the week before, episode seven seemed to be more focused on introducing the new version of Thor rather than actually telling a compelling or strong story. The God of Thunder’s fight with Captain Marvel took up a big chunk of the episode, which was something MCU fans had wanted to see for a while, but this wasn’t enough to excuse a lack of any real narrative.

While it was too silly at times, and never particularly deep, it was at least a lot of big dumb fun. Though not what fans of the series had necessarily come to expect at this point, this at least was something. That and seeing Loki in his true Jotun form.
