2. The Kids Return

"And that, kids, is how I met your mother." This has been the only episode in which Josh Radnor has narrated his own story, rather than his now-interchangeable older voice of Bob Saget, and we finally got to see older Ted telling his story to his children. Children who are the same age as when he started his story, dashing any fans' hopes that Lyndsy Fonseca and David Henrie would appear at their current ages (now 27 and 24 respectively) with a joke about the length of the story. But there was, at least, a reference when Ted said "I kept this story short and to the point". No, Ted, you really didn't. And the kids pick up on what's obvious from the beginning of the first episode to the end of the last - Ted is still in love with Robin. And the fans' eyes all rolled - of course it was about Robin. Once again, How I Met Your Mother gives the audience a circular story, but this time across nine seasons. So after being devastated by the truth of Tracy's predicted death, we find out that the whole story about The Mother was pointless. Except, it wasn't...
