How I Met Your Mother: 10 Ways The Finale Totally Lived Up To Expectations
10. Robin And Barney Divorce
Of course they did. The whole of series 8 was geared up towards them getting married, and the whole of series 9 actually WAS their wedding, so this could feel like a slap in the face to some fans (especially with the speed at which the show covered their broken down relationship and divorce) if it weren't for the fact that their marriage facilitated Ted finally meeting The Mother. But when you look at the show realistically, of course Robin and Barney got divorced. She's always put her career in front of her relationships, apart from the time when she tried it the other way around and Don broke her heart. So I guess she learned her lesson. And Barney is the serial womaniser, and it would take a lot more than just Robin to break that habit (as you know, assuming you watched the finale). Aside from gags such as the doppelgängers, How I Met Your Mother has always included an air of realism in its portrayals of relationships, etc, that other shows haven't. Lily left Marshall for six months, Ted got left at the altar, Ted cheated on Victoria (who, as it turned out, then leapt at Klaus), etc. So of course Robin and Barney wouldn't work. Not unless they were willing to give up everything that made them who they were to begin with.
I'm a British filmmaker (or, at least, trying to be) and about to graduate with a Film Studies degree. Most of the time I should spend working is actually on Netflix so I obviously have loads of life experience to share with you lovely people.
