Mr Robot wasn't afraid of delving into the real world during Season 1, with modern America, the financial crisis, and Occupy movement all clear touchstones during its first year. It also portrayed a hacker culture that was truer-to-life than most shows and movies manage, and was of course quite timely, given the backdrop of a post-Snowden world.

That's all set to play a part in Season 2, with ongoing debates raging around privacy and encryption. Although this was already planned to some degree, it's made more relevant by the case between Apple and the FBI, with Tim Cook refusing to allow access to the iPhones of the San Bernadino shooters. It's an issue that's only likely to grow in the future, and Mr Robot is going to incorporate it into Season 2, presenting a conversation about it and what it means for people's privacy, without necessarily coming down hard on either side of the debate.

Meanwhile, just continuing the real world theme, President Obama is also going to be cameoing in the new season... in a sense. In a faux-cameo, President Obama - or an impersonator's voice - can be heard actually discussing the events of the fsociety hack. Fingers crossed it's not Donald Trump when Season 3 rolls around.
