5 Reasons Why Watchmen Season 1 Succeeded
1. The Fully-Game Cast
Even if the writing and direction were pitch-perfect, much of the show's pure sense of quirk and weirdness wouldn't work without a cast to bolster it all. Thankfully, with such a supremely talented cast including Jeremy Irons, Regina King, and several others, you are just as invested in this world as the cast appears to be. They are committed to the material 100% and it's what makes the show work so well.
Regina King was tasked with the unenviable task of playing an entirely new protagonist for a brand associated with iconic pre-existing characters and she knocks it out of the park. King offers a focal point for the plot to move through but never allows herself to be anything two-dimensional or over-simplified. Meanwhile, you have Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Jean Smart, and Jeremy Irons taking on the far more well-known mantles in stride and providing superbly unique and effective interpretations.
Whether the role is more of a mild or prominent nature, each member of the cast adds their own sense of life to the show. They're so essential to making this reality feel lived-in and authentic. Luckily for viewers, they made it look easy.
