1. The Umbrella Academy
Based on the Eisner-Award Winning limited comic series, Umbrella Academy is a stylish, weird and wonderful story about multiple super-powered adoptive siblings and their familial dysfunctions, in an alternate universe where John F Kennedy was never assassinated.
Though announced earlier in the year, the trailer for the series was premiered in See What's Next Asia, with a release date for the show listed as February15, 2019.
Talents such as Ellen Paige and Robert Michael Sheehan, Tom Hopper, Emmy Raver-Lampman, David Castañeda, and Aidan Gallagher come together as the super-powered sibling protagonists, with Mary J. Blige and Cameron Britton as creepy, time-traveling assassins, Colm Feore as The Monocle, the siblings's rich alien father, Adam Godley as Pogo the chimp, and John Magaro as Leonard Peabody, a normal young man taking violin lessons from Ellen Paige's 00.07, Vanya Hargreeves.
It's a wild and fresh look at superheroes in a world so detached from the one often seen in TV and film, from a comic by writer Gerard Way (of My Chemical Romance fame) and artist Gabriel Bá.
There's nothing quite like it, not even in the weird and wonderful world of comics, and it's sure to make a splash in its 2019 release.
