Another reason why the show is so entertaining, apart from staying ridiculously true to the true crime formula, is the seriousness with which it's performed. The problems are simply immature, but the students and the teachers are approaching them very seriously. There are intrigues and plots that would put other true crime documentaries to shame.

The acting is top notch, as students and teachers often seem baffled by the events, exactly like they would in real life. Jimmy Tatro does a great job of playing a goofy prankster, and his definitely not-high school appearance is another joke played on the viewer - after all, he starred in 22 Jump Street, where it was constantly pointed out that the main characters look way too old to be college students. Other actors are great as well, especially Calum Worthy as the unreliable Alex Trimboli.
