Netflix's Friends From College Review: 2 Ups And 4 Downs

Friends From College Fred Savage
Netflix

Fred Savage is a true delight. The man does what he can with the material he's given and his enthusiasm can be contagious. His character is disappointing, yet Savage invests Max with enough sweetness that he actually makes him likable. This somehow ruins the whole idea of the show being about a bunch of egotistical people.

Annie Parisse is the only actress able to invest enough emotions in her character to make her more than acceptable. Samantha may be laughing, but there's always something hiding behind her deep, sad stare. It's easy to feel bad for Sam, as she's just a woman in love with the wrong guy, and that love is visible whenever she shares the screen with Ethan (Key). She especially shines in comparison to Cobie Smulders, who's basically reiterating the role of Robin Scherbatsky.

Seth Rogen and Kate McKinnon are also worthy of at least a mention here - both seem to have a lot of fun with their characters.
